Educators teaching courses such as Corporate Social Responsibility and Accountability or Corporations and Human Rights have been using WikiRate year on year to get students involved in the assessment of companies' fulfilment of the Australian and UK Modern Slavery Acts.

Besides reflecting on the role of companies in respecting and promoting human rights, students are learning about good practices and shortcomings or corporate reporting.

Additionally, through the assignment, students are highly motivated to contribute to collect open data that helps to understand how legislation is affecting business practice, and can hold non-compliance to account and be used to advocate for the improvement of industry standards. The data gathered collectively is used in the series Beyond Compliance Reports.
