2025
  • In January 2025, Wikirate International e.V. received General Operational Support from Humanity United to scale benchmarking efforts, diversify the data available on the platform, and invest in the growing network of contributors and civil‑society partners.

  • In February 2025, Wikirate International e.V. received financial support from Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) to maintain the Fashion Checker dashboard and onboard data from the Fashion Transparency Index.

  • In March 2025, NLnet and Wikirate International e.V. entered into a fourth Memorandum of Understanding. Wikirate obtained financial backing and technical collaboration to boost data accessibility by developing topic frameworks and extending the REST API, enabling linked data via JSON‑LD.

  • In 2025, continued to receive support from the Minderoo Foundation to carry out research and analysis on Modern Slavery Statements, including the ongoing maintenance of the Beyond Compliance dashboard.

  • In 2025, Wikirate International e.V. received transitional (exit) funding from the Laudes Foundation to complete existing grant‑funded activities, facilitate a responsible transition after the grant ends, and support additional communication initiatives.

  • In 2025, the Universities of Bristol Business School and Berlin & Law School supported Wikirate by funding our team to deliver guest lectures and training their students in using Wikirate’s research tool for ESG‑data collection.

2024
  • In January 2024, the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) contracted Wikirate International e.V. for the maintenance and updates of its Transparency Tool (the Fashion Checker), as well as for supply chain data onboarding.

  • Wikirate continued to receive support from Laudes Foundation to prepare the organization for growth and scale their open data advocacy. 

  • Continued to receive support from the Minderoo Foundation to carry out research and analysis on Modern Slavery Statements, including the ongoing maintenance of the Beyond Compliance dashboard.

  • Wikirate International recieved the second part of the financial support for completing the Peer Learning Network for Worker's Rights Grant from Open Data Institute and Humanity United.

  • The University of Bristol Business School supported Wikirate by funding our team to deliver a guest lecture and train students in using Wikirate’s research tool for ESG‑data collection.

2023
  • In January 2023, the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) contracted Wikirate International e.V. for the maintenance and updates of its Transparency Tool (the Fashion Checker), as well as for supply chain data onboarding.

  • On February 16th, MANA and WikiRate e.V. entered into a partnership agreement which includes project funding (provided to MANA by Hottinguer Bank) for piloting the integration of the MANA algorithm and WikiRate platform.

  • On March 7th 2023, WikiRate e.V. and Laudes Foundation entered into a Organizational Development agreement. As part of this agreement WikiRate receives financial support from Laudes Foundation to prepare the organization for growth and scale their open data advocacy.

  • In August 2023, Wikirate International e.V. and Laudes Foundation entered into a funding agreement to support work related to introducing the financial sector to open data and Wikirate. This work included platform upgrades and data onboarding to ensure institutional investors and civil society working on sustainable finance topics were able to make use of data on the platform to hold companies to account.

  • Wikirate International got the first part of the financial support for completing the Peer Learning Network for Worker's Rights Grant from Open Data Institute and Humanity United

  • On January 26th 2022, NLnet and WikiRate e.V. entered into a second Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost the usability of the WikiRate platform and improve the code’s replicability, making it more accessible. As part of this collaboration, WikiRate is receiving financial support.

  • On February 11th 2022, WikiRate e.V. and Laudes Foundation amdendent their 2021 agreement to expand their support to WikiRate to include open data advocacy work on the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.

  • On May 24th 2022, WikiRate e.V. received financial support from the Freedom Fund.

  • On October 3rd 2022, WikiRate e.V. and the Minderoo Foundation renewed the grant and collaboration agreement for the Modern Slavery Act research project. As part of this agreement, WikiRate is receiving financial support from the Minderoo Foundation. 

  • On November 30th 2022, NLnet and WikiRate e.V. entered into a third Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost the usability of the WikiRate platform and improve the code’s replicability, making it more accessible. As part of this collaboration, WikiRate is receiving financial support.

2021
  • On January 18th 2021, Humanity United (HU) contracted WikiRate e.V. to assess how to overcome the barriers that are preventing the labor rights community access to more useful and impactful open data. 

  • On January 25th 2021, WikiRate e.V. received financial support from the Freedom Fund.

  • On February 1st 2021, NLnet and WikiRate e.V. entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost the usability of the WikiRate platform and improve the code’s replicability, making it more accessible. As part of this collaboration, WikiRate is receiving financial support.

  • On June 7th 2021, WikiRate e.V. and Laudes Foundation entered into a grant agreement to host Fashion Revolution data on WikiRate, so it can be combined with other datasets and analyses, thus scaling its uptake, reach and impact to a larger and more diverse audience. As part of this agreement, WikiRate is receiving financial support.

  • On August 12th 2021, BHRRC and WikiRate entered into a partnership agreement to create an open, standardised, online database of tea production facilities and their affiliations with transnational buyers and producers, based on voluntary disclosures of supplier data. As part of this agreement, WikiRate is receiving financial support.

  • On October 12th 2021, WikiRate e.V. and the Minderoo Foundation renewed the grant and collaboration agreement for the Modern Slavery Act research project. As part of this agreement, WikiRate is receiving financial support from the Minderoo Foundation. 

  • On October 19th 2021, WikiRate joined the Microsoft-ODI peer learning network for (Open) Data Stewards. As part of this engagement WikiRate is involved in a number of roundtables and helps produce outputs to share learnings with the wider community. WikiRate is financially compensated for its participation.

2019
  • In 2019, WikiRate’s founder Philipp Hirche made donations to the WikiRate Project in support of the organisation’s programs and the general maintenance of the WikiRate.org platform.

  • On November 19th 2019, WikiRate e.V. and the Minderoo Foundation entered into a grant and collaboration agreement for the Modern Slavery Act research project. As part of this agreement, WikiRate is receiving financial support from the Minderoo Foundation. 

  • On December 4th 2019, Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) contracted WikiRate e.V. to design and develop the back-end for their Transparency Tool, also known as Fashion Checker.

The Wikirate Project - Crowdsource Better Companies

WikiRate.org was funded initially by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement no. 609897, which granted funds to each of the partners involved in building the platform at wikirate.org. The grant period was from October 2013 to March 2017. More details about this grant are available on CORDIS

ChainReact - Making Supplier Networks Transparent, Understandable and Responsive

WikiRate secured a second grant through European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement no. 687967 for its role in ChainReact as part of the European Commission CAPS initiative, for the period January 2016 to December 2018. More information about this grant can be found at chainreact.org and on CORDIS. The final grant payment was made in 2019.
